ABOUT THE COURSE
This course will introduce students to the fundamental theory of operation of Electro Magnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT) based Medium Range UT (MRUT) and Long Range UT (LRUT), including basic bulk vs. guided wave modes, wave generation mechanisms, and differences between EMAT vs. conventional UT. Students will also be exposed to standard EMAT applications for NDT such as normal beam, angled beam, material property measurement, and Guided Wave Testing (GWT) using Lamb and Shear Horizontal Waves for Mechanical Integrity inspection of pipeline and tank corrosion. Finally, students will be given a brief overview of the latest EMAT technology available currently in the NDT market. The course will involve both lecture and hands-on practice.
About the Instructors:
Justin Ng is the Manager of the Portable Equipment Team at Innerspec Technologies, Inc. He leads all engineering development plus sales and marketing efforts involved in the successful launching of a portfolio of next generation, portable NDT instruments.
Prior to Innerspec, he was involved in the design of nuclear power plants in the U.S., Finland, France, and China. Throughout his 12 years in the nuclear industry, he held increasingly senior roles in leadership, including as the Manager of the Overall Fluid Systems Engineering Group for the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant in Taishan, China, where his group played an instrumental role in the successful commissioning and start-up of the plant.
Justin holds an MBA from the Sorbonne Graduate Business School in Paris, France, and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University.
Eugene Lo is the Product Manager for Eddy Current Technologies at Innerspec Technologies, Inc. He has nine years of professional NDT experience in applications engineering, field inspections, software testing, and product management. Some highlights of his work in NDT includes performing feasibility studies and proof-of-concept trials on projects for NASA, SpaceX, PRCI, EPRI, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and British Petroleum. Prior to working in the NDT industry, Eugene held various engineering positions in the fields of surface microscopy for elemental analysis, mechanical design and integration of mission critical systems for military applications, and nuclear power plant operations. Eugene holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Old Dominion University, is a graduate of the US Naval Nuclear Power Program, and a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO).
