SEPTEMBER'S MEETING

The Logistics of Performing ACCP Examinations

at Remote Locations

Wednesday - September 8, 2010 @ Brady's Landing

Join us for the first meeting of our 2010 - 2011 year and welcome Gene Reinhart and Garry Allen of Reinhart & Associates.

The ASNT Central Certification Program (ACCP) includes written and practical examinations for Level II and III certifications.  ASNT has approved Authorized Examination Centers (AEC) to conduct these examinations at the home office of the AEC and more recently at remote locations.  ACCP examinations at remote locations, since they involve the use of archival inspection specimens and various nondestructive testing (NDT) systems, present unique challenges in conducting the examinations in a timely and cost effective manner.

Steps that need to be considered are:

1.  Transport of the test specimens and examinations to the test site in a controlled manner.

2.  Audit the various NDT systems to assure that all parameters are acceptable, such as calibration of light meters, UT instruments, etc.

3.  Location of examination areas to assure continued independent monitoring of examinations.

4.  Assignment of experienced proctors capable of monitoring all examinations and able to conduct various examinations in parallel to meet required schedules.

The above steps were used to conduct ACCP Level II and III examinations for 9 persons in one 5 day period for VT, UT, MT, PT and RT.  The information provided in this presentation should be useful to groups planning to conduct or have ACCP examinations performed at remote locations.  A review of the various ACCP examinations and the time required for each will also be presented.
