MENTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Greater Houston Section has a Mentor of the Year Award.  The following are the requirements and guidelines for receiving this award.

The Greater Houston Mentoring Award is designed to support and encourage the continuation of mentoring activities, and to establish mentoring as a core value at our Greater Houston section level. The award is given to individuals who have demonstrated significant leadership, skill, and ability in serving as a quality mentor to one or more individual within the nondestructive testing industry. 

Greater Houston Section Mentoring Award to be automatically submitted to corporate ASNT for nomination for the ASNT National Mentoring Award

Winner to be recognized at our local section Awards Night March 14th, 2012

Criteria:

bulletActive Member of ASNT/Greater Houston Section
bulletMinimum of 5 years active experience in the NDT industry
bullet Demonstrate effective relationships with individuals by being able to effectively communicate and actively listen. Having the ability to resolve conflicts and giving appropriate feedback.
bulletValuing and taking pride in NDT and in the marketplace; understanding its mission, vision, and values, and supporting its initiatives
bullet Exhibiting patience and willingness to spend and provide adequate time serving in the role of mentor.
bullet Serving as a role model—teaching and demonstrating high standards of performance, integrity, and ethical conduct.
bullet Providing ongoing technical advice and guidance in the specific subject matter area.
bullet Providing visibility through securing challenging projects and assignments for those that mentor and by discussing his/her accomplishments with others.
bullet Motivating and inspiring the one that is being mentored to achieve breakthroughs by challenging his/her potential.
bullet Helping the one being mentored to develop important skills, such as: planning and the effective use of time, organization, communication and interpersonal skills, leadership, teamwork, creative thinking, etc.

For submission and nomination:

Deadline:  Must be received by January 31, 2012

Submit a letter not to exceed 2 pages explaining why candidate is qualified for Mentor Award
